Greenwich House Pottery, New York City’s only non-profit venue dedicated exclusively to the ceramic arts, is pleased to present its 12th annual Made in Clay benefit sale and first ever online auction. The sale takes place in the Pottery’s charming, 1928 red brick building at 16 Jones Street. A special preview evening catered by SUSHI SAMBA will give guests an advance look at the ceramics on view. Over 80 ceramic artists selected from across the country convey the wonderful variety of American studio pottery today: Richard Notkin's politically charged earthenware tiles, a haunting, life-size sculpture by Akio Takamori, Ayumi Horie's earthenware pots featuring wry, witty drawings of animals and their dramas, Sam Chung’s contemporary soda-firing methods, and Julia Galloway’s intricately glazed pouring vessels. Guest artists’ work is displayed along side Greenwich House Pottery’s own members, who exhibit ceramic works ranging from traditional vases and sake sets to hand-built lidded boxes and elegant jewelry. View some of their work here. The work of these artists has been seen in galleries across the country and in the pages of Vogue, American Craft, Ceramics Monthly, Time Out NY, as well as blogs such as Design*Sponge, Apartment Therapy and Whip-up; Made in Clay is the only place to see them all side by side. Proceeds from Made In Clay directly benefit the artists and Greenwich House Pottery’s educational programs which support emerging ceramic artists from age 4 through post-MFA residencies and beyond. Made In Clay also offers an introduction to Greenwich House Pottery’s Storefront, the only venue of its kind in New York City to offer an inspiring array of contemporary studio ceramics year-round.
