Remembering Faculty Member Anna Siok

Anna Tefft Siok, 1925-2010

A memorial service and celebration of Anna's life is scheduled for Friday, September 10th from 3-5pm in the Greenwich House Music School concert hall (2nd floor), 46 Barrow Street off Seventh Avenue.

We are sad to announce the death of long-time teacher and mentor Anna Siok. Her humor, talent and spirit inspired students at GHP for over five decades, and she will be deeply missed by the faculty, staff, and residents.

Anna grew up in Providence, Rhode Island and graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1946 with a BFA in Painting and Textile Design. She went on to earn an MFA in Sculpture from Yale, where she studied with Josef and Anni Albers. Anna began working in clay in the 1950’s and started teaching at Greenwich House Pottery in 1958 where she continued to teach an advanced hand-building class through early 2010, and was widely admired and beloved by the students and staff.

Anna also taught at the 92nd Street Y, the RISD Junior School, and the Childrens’ Studio of Hartsdale, NY. Her work has been exhibited at the Hicks Street Gallery and the Jane Hartsook Gallery at Greenwich House Pottery, and Vendo Nubes Gallery in Philadelphia, and her work is represented in numerous private collections.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Anna's family and wide network of friends, and her devoted neighbors Ann Marie Carley and Gerry Dempsey who cared for Anna in her final months.
