"Synthetic Experiments"

GHP & Dean Project are pleased to present: “Synthetic Experiments", new work by Greg Stewart and Chad Curtis Oct. 30th - Nov. 26th, 2008. This exhibition of sculptural objects and drawings investigates ideas of mutation and synthesis, both as process and concept. Mutation, as it occurs, enacts the very possibility of change; its presence carries with it a trace of malignancy but also presents the potential for exhilarating migrations from the everyday. Synthesis, on the other hand, is a process of combining disparate elements into a singular whole, providing another system or opportunity for change. Both processes engage the idea of alteration through their own unique system.

Chad Curtis holds an MFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in venues such as Scope Miami and Scope Hamptons, SOFA New York, One Part Clay: Ceramic Avantgarde & Mixed Media at the Garth Clark Gallery, New York, CIRCA Puerto Rico, and Exporting Pop: A Western Fantasy opening at the Kuwait Art Foundation Limited in Dubai in 2009. In addition, his work has been included in publications such as Ceramics Art and Perception, Neue Keramik, Clay In Art International Yearbook 06/07, Breaking the Mould: New Approaches to Ceramics, Seramik Turkiye, and the forthcoming 500 Ceramic Sculptures. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor at the Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Philadelphia. More information and additional work can be found here.

Greg Stewart holds an MFA from Ohio University. His work has been exhibited  nationally and internationally in venues such as Dean Project, Garth Clark Gallery, New York, Scope Miami, Circa PR Puerto Rico, 1708 Gallery, Richmond, VA, The Rochester  Contemporary, Rochester, New York, Peninsula Center for the Arts, Virginia, University of Georgia, Athens. Forthcoming Exhibitions include Exporting Pop: A Western Fantasy opening at the Kuwait Art Foundation Limited in Dubai 2009, and a one-person exhibition at Dean Project In May 2009. In addition, Greg has been a participant in the international artist collective SPURSE. Currently, he is an Associate Professor of Sculpture at James Madison University.
