FAQs about Volunteering
At Greenwich House
Q. Do you have volunteer opportunities for individuals?
A. We have limited opportunities for direct involvement within our programs for individual volunteers primarily due to the regulatory constraints and highly confidential nature of our medical and mental health programs which are the largest client-serving programs at Greenwich House. Individuals can be helpful and contribute to the participants in our programs by participating in the holiday gift and food drives that provide holiday cheer and much-needed food to clients with limited financial resources.
Q. A department within my company wants to do a volunteer project but we can only organize a group for an evening or weekend day—is this possible?
A. Virtually all our programs operate only on week days (Monday-Friday); The majority of the activities at the Judith C. White Senior Center take place in the morning and through the early afternoon. Some projects have been organized and successful at the Center for later in the day, i.e. 3-5 pm.
Q. Can Greenwich House cover the costs of materials and refreshments for a volunteer project?
A. We have extremely limited financial resources to apply toward additional materials and costs of organizing a volunteer activity. Many companies have allocated funds for such needs to support their company policy for volunteering in the community. We will work with you to provide an estimate of costs for a project or activity and will acknowledge the in-kind donation of materials and supplies. Please contact: Andrea Newman, (212) 991-0003, ext. 400, to discuss ideas for your volunteer project or activity.
