While the setting is informal\, the programming remains first rate; from Bach to Bernstein\, Beethoven to Barber\, Mozart for Munchkins features outstanding works performed by exceptional musicians—an unforgettable experience for the whole family! \nIn order to follow COVID-19 safety protocols\, concerts will take place in the back garden. Attendance is very limited. Please bring your own blanket and park it 6 feet from your neighbor\, wear a mask (under 2 excluded)\, and get ready to dance\, clap\, and sing with us! \nKids under 12 are free! \nEach interactive performance is followed by an “instrument petting zoo” where everyone is welcome to try the instruments and meet the performers! \nThere are two performances today. \n9:15 – 10:00 a.m. Tickets can be purchased here. \n10:30 – 11:15 a.m. Tickets can be purchased here.

These limited edition works were all made by GHP staff and faculty during the pandemic. All proceeds go to keep your favorite local ceramic arts center (GHP) running and supporting our community of ceramic artists. \nGreenwich House Pottery is a nonprofit ceramics center that has been supporting artists and promoting the field of ceramics for over 110 years. Starting with clay modeling classes in the earliest days of Greenwich House as part of its Handicraft School\, the Pottery flourished with the help of the community and philanthropic support from patrons like Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney. GHP remains a stalwart of innovation and art. \nWhen GHP moved online due to the COVID-19 pandemic\, our faculty and staff stepped up to the challenge\, some teaching online classes\, some making pots to sell to support Greenwich House\, and some doing both! \n

Photo: Ann Treesa Joy. \nGHP Artists Exhibition\nExhibition on view online starting May 22\, 2020 \nThe Jane Hartsook Gallery is pleased to present an online exhibition recognizing the distinguished artists who contribute to the Greenwich House Pottery community. This online exhibition showcases the artistic range of GHP’s makers\, each of whom uses the Pottery’s extensive resources to express their own creative voice in clay. From functional ceramics to sculpture\, this exhibition is as diverse as the artists themselves. \nGHP is the oldest non-profit in the country dedicated to the inquiry and advancement of the ceramic arts. Key to the development of technical skills and innovation\, GHP provides an all-encompassing educational program for over 1260 students annually. Artists and students learn from professional faculty and staff proficient in a range of topics from wheel throwing\, hand-building and paper clay to glaze chemistry and slip casting. GHP also hosts workshops and lectures by leading ceramic artists from around the country as well as offering teens and children the opportunity to work in clay through Greenwich House’s Afterschool Program. DESCRIPTION:For over 30 years\, Greenwich House Children’s Safety Project\, has been a resource and support for families and children in trauma. On April 22nd\, we had planned a key fundraising luncheon to support the critical work of our team of therapists at CSP\, caring for vulnerable children and their families. While the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled our fundraising plans\, CSP’s work needs to continue as we field referrals and take on new clients\, all while working remotely. \nWe need your help. If you had planned to support the luncheon\, please consider making your donation today and join us for a special event. \nIn lieu of the luncheon Katherine Reynolds Lewis\, our friend and speaker from last year\, award-winning author of The Good News About Bad Behavior\, will host a webinar called From Crisis to Contribution: Parenting During the Pandemic. \n\n\nAt the beginning of the pandemic\, families were in survival mode: scrambling to adapt to online learning\, working from home\, and managing unexpected anxiety and health needs. Now we need more than to survive — we need to thrive. This workshop covers the essential parenting tools for enlisting children in family decisions\, household life and routines fundamental to physical and mental health. \nAuthor and parent educator Katherine Reynolds Lewis will share a research-grounded method for moving children from the unstructured\, screen-time overload of those early weeks into a more sustainable set of habits — without guilt\, yelling or additional stress. Not only will you free up time in your day\, your children will develop a sense of purpose that helps build the resilience they’ll need to weather these tough times. This talk covers attuning to children’s emotions\, age-appropriate chores\, ways to win cooperation\, stress management strategies and the mistakes you should avoid when setting up new healthy routines. \n\n\nYour donation will give you access to the webinar. SUMMARY:Malene Barnett Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:Kuli Village of Ghana: A Journey of an Artist\nIn this artist talk\, Malene Barnett\, shares a documentary style\, photographic journey of her most recent visit to Ghana\, West Africa with Winnie Owens Hart. Through her photographs\, she will share her experience of working alongside side Ewe women of Kuli\, while learning hand-building processes and firing techniques. The experience\, the craftsmanship of the Ewe potters and photographs will reinvigorate your connection to your clay practice. \nBorn in the Bronx\, Barnett was raised along the Norwalk coastline of Connecticut on a diet of soca\, reggae and Caribbean folktales. She started painting at an early age and then went on to explore textile design and study fashion illustration and surface design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Barnett established her New York-based atelier Malene B in 2008. Her work has been featured in publications such as Interior Design\, New York Magazine and House Beautiful\, and can be found in Saks Fifth Avenue\, WeWork NYC and NBC Telemundo Miami\, just to name a few. Barnett was a GHP artist in residence September 24 to December 7\, 2018. \n\nThis event is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Dolores Furtado Artist Talk
DESCRIPTION:Dolores Furtado will give a talk about the work she has been developing during her residency at Greenwich House Pottery. \nDolores Furtado is a sculptor who creates work that focuses on materiality. She uses technical research and experimentation to create forms that expose the unique qualities of her materials\, and views her sculptures as the documentation of process and action. \nFurtado studied art at the Universidad di Tella. She has been an artist in residence with AIR on Governor’s Island\, the Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning\, and the Pouch Cove Visual Artist Residency. Furtado has also won the Jerome Foundation Fellowship. Her work has been in solo and group exhibitions at: Kingsborough Art Museum (Brooklyn\, NY; 2019)\, Vasari Gallery (Buenos Aires\, Argentina; 2018)\, Clemente Soto Cultural Center (New York\, NY; 2017)\, the Bronx Museum of the Arts (New York\, NY; 2017) and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Buenos Aires (Argentina; 2016). Furtado will develop a series of 15 medium-scale ceramic sculptures based on her previous experiments casting paper pulp. This will be her first foray into working with clay. She will make this series by creating molds of her paper sculptures and casting them in clay during her residency at the Pottery.
