To read more about the exhibition\, click here. \nWansoo Kim is a Tennessee-based artist who earned his MFA from the University of Nebraska and his BFA from Seoul National University of Science and Technology. Recent solo exhibitions include Watkins College of Art at Belmont University (Nashville\, TN; 2022)\, The New Gallery at Austin Peay State University (Clarksville\, TN; 2021)\, and E. Bronson Ingram Studio Arts Center (Nashville\, TN; 2020). He is an assistant professor of ceramics at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville\, Tennessee. \n  \n

Inspired by Williams’ musical contemporaries and their respective zodiac signs\, this twelve-movement piece is packed with personality and kaleidoscopic character changes. Palaver will join forces with acclaimed jazz pianist Chris Patishall\, who will bring this piece to life in a new arrangement for jazz trio and strings. Palaver will also perform pieces by two other pioneering women\, Jessie Montgomery and Lili Boulanger. \nRepertoire \nStrum – Jessie Montgomery \nZodiac Suite – Mary Lou Williams\, arr. Chris Patishall \nNocturne – Lili Boulanger\, arr. Su Yin Chan \nPalaver Strings is a musician-led string ensemble and nonprofit organization based in Portland\, ME. Our mission is to strengthen and inspire community through music. In our musician-led model\, Palaver’s musicians share artistic and administrative leadership\, guided by a passion for engaging new audiences\, addressing social justice issues\, and amplifying underrepresented voices. Equally committed to performance and education\, Palaver presents a full season of live concerts and serves hundreds of students each year at the Palaver Music Center in Portland.

Doors open at 7 p.m. \n  \nDance Clarinets presents the music of James Reese Europe. \nThere will be a panel discussion with: Elena Martinez\, Jimmy Owens\, and will be moderated by Dr. Paul Austerlitz. \nGreenwich House Music School’s Dance Clarinets is a clarinet orchestra comprised of twenty musicians (along with percussion\, piano\, and bass)\, drawn from professional and semi-professional musicians from all over New York City who perform together with GHMS students. The group was founded ten years ago by woodwind faculty member J. D. Parran. \n
