Created especially for newcomers curious about our programs to enjoy FREE mini classes, live artist demos, and hands-on activities for all ages.


Start your day at Greenwich House Music School! From the moment you walk in, you’ll find music in every corner — from babies shaking maracas in early childhood classes, to kids and adults picking up an instrument for the first time. Our faculty will be on hand to guide short lessons, introduce families to instruments, and lead sample classes in both music and dance.

For ages 3 to 14
A joyful introduction to movement and classical technique in a supportive, judgment-free environment where every child can shine.

Strum your first chords and get a feel for rhythm and melody in this lively introduction to guitar playing.

Explore the joy of making music with your voice or on the keys in this approachable session for all ages 5+.

Feel the beat and unleash your inner drummer in this energetic, beginner-friendly session—no sticks required.

For ages 0 to 3 years
Family-style sessions that bring parents, caregivers, and children together to sing, move, and make music as a community.

For ages 2 to 3
A multi-sensory class where toddlers explore piano together, building skills and activities to continue learning at home.

For ages 5 to 6
Hands-on classes where young children build foundational skills and creativity through playful music-making.

In the afternoon, walk over to Greenwich House Pottery to get your hands dirty and discover the magic of clay.
Our teaching artists will guide kids, teens, and adults through beginner-friendly activities — from throwing on the wheel to handbuilding with simple techniques. Whether it’s your first time or you’re already a creative, you’ll go home inspired.

The Music School is located a short walking distance from the Pottery on Jones Street.
Greenwich House (GH) has been a community hub in the West Village for over 120 years, offering arts, education, and social services for New Yorkers of all ages.
Our Music School inspires creativity through lessons and performances, while GH Pottery welcomes students to explore clay in a hands-on studio environment.
At the Open House, come ready for music, art, and community—wear clothes you don’t mind getting clay on, note that parents must stay with children, and expect an intergenerational mix of neighbors learning together.
You must be able to walk up stairs in order to access the mini private lessons.
Greenwich House Music School and Greenwich House Pottery are both located in the heart of the West Village, easily accessible by subway 1/ACE/FM or bus.
