Dance Clarinets Concert Honored the Music of James Reese Europe
What a way to cap off our 120th Anniversary events! The phenomenal Dance Clarinets, Greenwich House Music School’s clarinet orchestra gave a magical performance led by woodwind faculty JD Parran on Thursday, December 8. They honored the music of legendary proto jazz and ragtime music band leader James Reese Europe who was an influential leader in the New York City music scene in the early 1900s.
We thank jazz musician Jimmy Owens, folklorist Elena Martinez, drummer Bobby Sanabria and ethnomusicologist Dr. Paul Austerlitz for an engaging and educational panel discussion on the social, artistic, political, and cultural landscape during the turn of the last century.
