Older Adult Meal Pilot Program Offers Supper and Brunch
In response to the growing food insecurity facing older New Yorkers, the Westbeth Older Adult Center is launching the Summer Supper Club—a pilot program introducing a dinner meal, along with a Friday Brunch at 155 Bank Street. For many older adults in NYC, the lunch served at senior centers is often their only full meal of the day. Some are quietly splitting that meal—half at midday, the rest for dinner—out of necessity, not preference. This new initiative aims to help fill that critical gap.
Starting in this week, older adults can now gather for:
-
Supper on Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m.
-
Brunch on Fridays and Sundays at 11:30 a.m.
A Growing Crisis in NYC
According to recent data from Hunger Free America, more than 200,000 older adults in New York City face food insecurity, meaning they lack consistent access to enough nutritious food. Many live on fixed incomes, are homebound, or experience mobility and social barriers that make regular grocery shopping or meal preparation difficult.
For older adults in the West Village and Lower Manhattan, those challenges are compounded by rising food prices, limited senior-specific resources, and the risk of social isolation.
“We hear from our members all the time that they’re skipping meals to make ends meet,” says Laura Marceca, Program Director of the Older Adult Network. “By offering options like supper and brunch, we are providing members with a small but meaningful way to change that.”
More Than a Meal
Each supper and brunch at Westbeth is designed to be welcoming and nourishing—offering healthy, culturally resonant dishes served in a community setting. Whether it’s a themed dinner, a shared conversation around art and memory, or just the comfort of eating together at the end of the day, Greenwich House helps ensure older adults are fed in more ways than one.
It also reflects Greenwich House’s broader commitment to addressing social determinants of health, including food access, community connectedness, and cultural enrichment.
Join the Table
The Greenwich House Meal Program, including supper, lunch, and brunch, is open to older adults ages 60+ living from anywhere in the five boroughs. Older adults are encouraged to explore lunch service at any of GH’s four Older Adult Centers, and come to supper and brunch. No RSVP is required—just show up, complete a quick membership form, take a seat, and enjoy a meal that means more.
