About the Youth Services
At Greenwich House Youth Services, we believe every young person deserves a space to explore their interests, develop new skills, and grow in a supportive environment. Our after-school and summer programs provide engaging, creative, and enriching experiences that help students thrive both personally and academically. Serving students across multiple locations, we offer a variety of activities designed to inspire, challenge, and empower youth in a welcoming, fun atmosphere year-round.
Our History
In the early 1940s, amid rising concern for the well-being of New York City’s teenagers, Greenwich House took a pioneering step to meet their needs. In 1942, we launched the city’s first After-School program, offering teens recreational and social opportunities in a safe, supportive environment. This innovative initiative laid the groundwork for our long-standing commitment to youth development, which continues today through programs that inspire learning, creativity, and connection.
In 2024, recognizing the evolving needs of families in Greenwich Village and Lower Manhattan, Greenwich House embarked on a comprehensive reimagining process to better understand how to serve the community’s youth. Based on this research, Greenwich House rebranded the Youth Community Center (YCC) as Greenwich House Youth Services.
Our offerings now include on-site after-school programming at PS 15 and PS 19 on the Lower East Side. This change reflects our ongoing dedication to addressing the diverse needs of local families, ensuring we provide relevant, meaningful support to young people as they navigate new challenges.
Greenwich House’s Youth Services is generously supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) in partnership with the City Council alongside funding from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (NYSOCFS).
Additional key support for Youth Services is provided by CLAWS Foundation, Susquehanna Foundation, Morgan Stanley, Mae & Mitchell Marcus Charitable Foundation, Amazon, Louis & Anne Abrons Foundation, and the Stossel Abrams Charity Fund.
