Kindred Bakery BK Expands Inclusive Culinary Training to Greenwich House
Greenwich House is proud to welcome Kindred Bakery BK, a Brooklyn-based social enterprise, to its culinary kitchen at 27 Barrow Street this fall. The partnership brings Kindred’s inclusive baking programs to Manhattan for the first time, expanding access to youth and young adults with developmental disabilities and from low-income communities.

Together, Greenwich House and Kindred Bakery BK are creating a model for how organizations can collaborate to empower individuals and build more inclusive communities through shared spaces, skills, and creativity.
“We are thrilled to provide a space at Greenwich House for Kindred Bakery to expand its impactful culinary programs,” said Laura Langner, Chief Health and Human Services Officer at Greenwich House. “This partnership marks an exciting first step in creating meaningful opportunities that are inclusive to people from marginalized groups. When businesses embrace diverse abilities, they help individuals achieve greater independence and foster stronger, more connected communities.”
Kindred’s teaching model blends hands-on, project-based learning with social-emotional support and an adapted curriculum designed to be accessible for every ability level. Students gain technical baking skills while also developing teamwork, confidence, and professional readiness.
Two programs will be offered this fall at Greenwich House:
- Saturday Baking & Pastry Program (Ages 12–24) — Weekly two-hour classes introducing baking techniques, food safety, and collaboration. Participants prepare professional-quality breads and pastries to share with family and friends.
