Greenwich House and Heights and Hills Announce New Strategic Alliance to Expand and Strengthen Services for Older Adults Across Brooklyn and Beyond

New York, NY — November 4, 2025 — Greenwich House (GH) and Heights and Hills (H&H) today announced a historic new strategic alliance that will bring together two of New York City’s most trusted community-based nonprofits serving older adults.

Following approvals of both boards, H&H will become a separate but affiliated organization under the Greenwich House umbrella of community programs and services. This acquisition and affiliation comes at a pivotal time: New York City’s population of adults aged 65 and older has grown by over 53% since 2000, and Brooklyn alone is home to more older adults than any other county in New York State, per the New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli.

By combining their operational and programmatic strength, GH and H&H are building capacity to meet this accelerating need across Manhattan and Brooklyn. The affiliation will bring together more than a century of shared experience in community care, strengthening both organizations’ capacity to serve New Yorkers through collaboration, resource-sharing, and mission-driven integration.

“This is an exciting new chapter for both organizations,” said Darren Bloch, Executive Director and CEO of GH. “By coming together, we’re not only ensuring the continued stability of our combined services—we’re creating new opportunities to expand access, share best practices, and meet the evolving needs of New Yorkers, and particularly older adults, across the city.”

“Heights and Hills has always been grounded in community—neighbors helping neighbors,” said Carrie Bloss, Executive Director of H&H. “This partnership allows us to preserve that spirit while strengthening our foundation for the future. Together with Greenwich House, we can ensure that Brooklyn’s older adults and caregivers continue to receive the compassionate care they’ve come to expect, for decades to come.”

Founded in 1971, H&H has long been a cornerstone of aging services in Brooklyn, supporting thousands of older adults and their caregivers each year through case management, caregiver support, volunteer programs, and community engagement. GH, founded in 1902 as one of earliest settlement houses in the Country, operates a network of programs in Manhattan serving 20,000 New Yorkers through a mix of health and behavioral health services, workforce development, and older adults.

With the strategic realignment, H&H will become an affiliate of GH, maintaining its operations and staff while gaining access to shared administrative resources, organizational infrastructure, and expanded program opportunities. Over time, the partnership will provide a platform for GH to bring additional services to Brooklyn and for H&H to deepen and broaden its offerings to the community.

H&H began the exploration for the strategic re-alignment in 2022, supported in part by a grant and technical assistance from the New York Merger and Collaboration Fund (NYMAC), a private fund supported by a collaborative of private foundations and individual philanthropists, and managed by SeaChange Capital Partners.

“We have great respect for both organizations and feel privileged to have played a small part in helping them make this partnership a reality,” said John MacIntosh of SeaChange Capital Partners. NYMAC helps New York City nonprofits pursue mergers, alliances, and other strategic partnerships. “We are confident that it will benefit New Yorkers for many years to come.”

The effort reflects a shared belief that collaboration around community-based solutions drives greater impact. By combining strengths, GH and H&H will enhance their collective ability to meet the growing needs of New York’s aging population, improve nonprofit resiliency, and ensure their missions endure for generations to come.
