B.C. Vermeersch Becomes Director

B.C. was a founding member of the Coalition for Community Music Schools, and began the North River Chamber concert featuring contemporary composers and ensembles, such as Meredith Monk, David Behrman, Phill Niblock and John Cage. In 1987, he and Frank Wigglesworth began the Thursday Event Concert series for new music. In 1988, he produced the beginnings of a concert series curated by Steven Blier and Michael Barnett called New York Festival of Song. B.C. was instrumental in starting a series of education programs in the local public schools in the West Village neighborhood. He also began a Music School magazine called “Quarter Notes,” which told stories about the families, students, and faculty of GHMS.
