September 9 – November 22, 2024

Kristy Moreno is a California-based artist who uses aesthetics influenced by Southern California counter cultures, cartoons from the 1990s, and folklore to create figurative work that imagines fictional communities in a decolonized future who are free from patriarchal structures.

Moreno earned her BFA in ceramics from California State University, Chico. She has shown her work internationally, including at Thinkspace Projects (Los Angeles, CA; 2022), STRAAT Museum (Amsterdam, Netherlands; 2023), and Espacio Gallery (London, England; 2022). Moreno recently completed a two-year artist residency at The Archie Bray Foundation and received the American Craft Council’s 2023 Emerging Artist Cohort Grant.

During her residency, Moreno will formulate her own brightly-colored matte and glossy mid- and low-fire glazes to better compliment her recent work. She will also create a multi-part mold of one of her individual standing figures to enable her to reproduce smaller versions of her sculptures. These slipcast pieces will double as “test tiles” that Moreno will use to experiment with as she formulates an array of colorful glazes during her residency.
