Michelle Im is a New York City-based ceramic artist. She studied with Greenwich House Pottery’s faculty, including Dave Gibson, and earned a BA in biological sciences and art from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Im has shown her work nationally, including at NADA Art Fair (New York, NY; 2025), DIMIN Gallery (New York, NY; 2025), Brooklyn Museum (Brooklyn, NY; 2025), and American Museum of Ceramic Art (Pomona, CA; 2024). Recent accolades include the Center for Craft Teaching Artist Grant and the Ceramics Monthly Emerging Artist Award. Recent artist residencies include The Archie Bray Foundation, the Museum of Arts & Design, and Penland School of Craft.

During her residency, Im will expand her series of figurative sculptures inspired by the uniforms of Korean Air flight attendants. In this series, Im uses air travel to examine the concept of home as a transient space and explores themes of labor, cultural duality, and conformity. She will use the time in our studios to experiment with her construction methods, moving from her current modular building methods to smaller-scale single piece construction, which will allow her to bring more challenging poses to life.
