In Memoriam: Tom Connor, Center on the Square Volunteer
August 7th, 2020
We regret to inform our community that Tom Connor, a volunteer at Center on the Square for over 20 years, passed away on August 6th, 2020. Director of Center on the Square, Laura Marceca, remembers Tom’s cherished presence at the center:
“Tom was part of the family at Greenwich House, Center on the Square for over 20 years, serving as the Advisory Council President for 15 of those years. In addition to his role as President, he served as the chair of many committees including meals, advocacy, and trip.
Tom was involved with the day-to-day operations of our senior center, always there to assist seniors on a variety of issues, including social action. He was a strong advocate for senior’s rights.
Tom always maintained an active role with the Department for the Aging, and their involvement with the senior centers.
He enjoyed going on day trips with the group, especially our yearly trips to Fire Island, and always looked forward to the BBQ on the patio.
Tom was a very special part of the center and was instrumental in setting up the systems we use today.
Tom Connor was a pioneer of the senior center, and will be missed tremendously and never forgotten.”
If you would like to make a gift in memory of Tom Connor, we have set up a Memorial Fund to support special activities at Greenwich House Senior Centers. Select the Tom Connor Memorial Fund from the designation drop-down menu on this page. Thank you.
