Ben Kono, acclaimed jazz musician and composer, celebrates his third recording as a leader, Voyages, in a pre-release concert at Greenwich House Music School. This captivating exploration of cultural heritage and personal history will feature music and musicians from his long-awaited album, a project made possible in part by a Chamber Music America New Jazz Works grant and the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. Featuring Kono’s core jazz quintet joined by a string quartet, this long-form suite which artfully blends classical chamber music with riveting jazz performances is an immigration story that pays tribute to his Japanese-American forebears.
