Free Rehearsal Space for Performing Arts

Free Rehearsal Space for the Performing Arts at Greenwich House Music School is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. Thanks to this grant, we are pleased to offer free studio rentals and practice rooms to local artists and musicians from January 5 – March 31, 2026.

Expectations:

1. Each musician or ensemble is entitled to one free 1-to-2-hour block of rehearsal time per day. Space must be booked online in advance via our online booking platform Skedda or with our receptionist at the front desk of 46 Barrow Street. New to Skedda? Check out this tutorial.
2. Studios are generally available Monday-Friday, 9 am-2 pm and 6-8 pm, and Saturdays 9-5 pm and can be booked up to two weeks in advance.
3. Studios that are already booked or unavailable to you will appear be grayed out in Skedda. We recommend navigating to the “Day” view on the platform to check on availability for a specific date.
4. Please do not bring any food and beverage into the studios other than water. We have a water fountain in our first floor lobby.
5. At the end of your session, please tidy up and leave the studios as you found them.
6. If a piano or piece of equipment needs our attention, please let us know at the reception desk on the first floor.
7. Note: If you reserve a room prior to January 5 or after March 31, you will be required to provide a credit card and will be charged the standard rental rate of $15 per hour (unless notified otherwise). Reservations are not charged until the date of your scheduled rehearsal. Please contact us if you have issues or questions regarding payment procedure.

Policies:

1. Use of our studios is intended for personal rehearsals only. Teaching or coaching is not allowed and you forfeit your ability to rent space at GHMS if you do so. These rooms are intended for rehearsal, not for social events or gatherings.
2. You must check in upon arrival. If you do not check in within 10 minutes of the session beginning, your reservation will be released to the public and your room will not be guaranteed for that date.
3. To ensure we can fairly and equitably offer free space to as many performing artists as possible, we ask that you please cancel your session up to 24-hours prior to the reservation if needed. If you fail to cancel your session, don’t show up, and don’t let us know (either in-person, by phone, or email), your ability to book space may be revoked and/or you may be asked to provide a credit card after multiple occurrences.
