Kate Missett

Kate Missett is a Brooklyn based ceramic artist who uses both the wheel and handbuilding to create large figurative sculpture inspired by ecological and political issues. She utilizes a variety of firing techniques including raku, salt, and lustre as well as silkscreen and photo transfer to create narrative imagery. She is represented by Carter Burden Gallery in New York and has exhibited extensively. She is the Visual Arts Director at the West Side YMCA, as well as an adjunct professor at CUNY. She has also taught workshops at Penland School of Crafts and Peter’s Valley Craft Center, Teacher’s College at Columbia and Rockland Center for Crafts.

She has recently been published in Image and Design Transfer Techniques, and Jill Enfield’s Guide to Photographic Alternative Processes.  Her artwork is published in 500 Raku, as well as articles in Pottery Making Illustrated and Ceramics; Art and Perception. Her curatorial work includes the exhibition Honoring Our Roots at NCECA Baltimore, and Reawakening: a Celebration of Nature and Renewal at Kingsborough Gallery, Brooklyn.

Kate has an MFA from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn and a BA from Loyola, New Orleans.
