Kate Whitney
Kate Whitney has a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Texas, Austin and a Master of Music in Piano Performance from University of Southern California, Los Angeles. She has studied under the esteemed direction of Dalies Frantz, Lillian Steuber, Madame Gwendolyn Koldofsky, Maestro German Diez. She has appeared as a soloist with the Houston Summer Symphony, the USC Symphony, and the Orange Coast Symphony Orchestras. As an accompanist she has toured throughout the US with the Columbia Artist Community Concerts Series. Formerly on Third Street Music School’s faculty, Kate has become a beloved staple of Greenwich House Music School’s piano faculty.
Kate on her teaching style:
“I focus on traditional/classical-using standard grade-level literature, which supports basic music fundamentals (often combining the Suzuki method for beginners) while concentrating on a relaxed physical technique and form, using arm and body weight to produce tone.”
