Katie Coughlin
Pronouns: she/her
Katie Coughlin received her MFA in Ceramics from The Ohio State University and her BFA from Alfred University. With a deep reference for form, volume, and material, the idea of the vessel, whether it be a bowl for holding fruit, a large scale fabric installation meant to filter light, or a stoneware funnel held under her arm to extend the form of her body, sits at the center of her practice. Katie has been an Artist in Resident at Red Lodge Clay Center, Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts and Walkaway House. She has received multiple awards including the Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award from the International Sculpture Center, The Warren Mackenzie Advancement Award from Northern Clay Center, and a NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship. A native New Yorker, Katie returned to the city in 2018 and lives and works in Brooklyn.
