Mary Hurlbut
Mary on her teaching style:
“I think what enables me to succeed as a teacher is my ability to choose music that fits the student. I have a strong knowledge of traditional classical and musical theater repertoire. One of the great challenges with singing is enabling the performer to be at ease in front of an audience. In order for the singer to succeed, he/she needs to learn how to create a comfortable environment while performing. An essential part of this process involves finding repertoire that is vocally suitable which can also connect to the singer’s personality. I try to discuss what the student wants to accomplish, and select styles and music that suits their age and life experience. There is a lot of give and take with music selection; there is no shortage of songs.”
