Michael Gurfield
Michael on his teaching style:
“I teach the rudiments of trumpet technique in the style of the great masters of the instrument. For younger students, we do everything from improv and sight-singing, to recording (using laptops and garage band mostly) to engage their imaginations. For more advanced students, I use the great brass texts, by masters of the instrument like Arban, Clarke, and Schlossberg to teach the proper approach, and ease of playing, as well as musicality. In essence, I teach about sound, song, and wind. How to conceptualize the sound you want to make, and how to allow your body to give you that result.”
