Rudra Schultz-Ray
Pronouns: he/him
Rudra graduated from Allegheny College in Meadville Pennsylvania with a BA in history and a
minor in studio art specializing in ceramics. Rudra’s pottery attempts to bridge the gap between ancient history and practical designs. His area of focus is the role that pottery and ceramics played in the transport of pepper in the Indo-Roman exchange of spices. This trade effectively interconnected the cultures of two geographically distant worlds with little more than some waterproofed jars. He presents practical shapes that proliferated in the ancient world with new purposes and colors to make it more fitting for the modern palate. While crucially still paying homage to the shapes, textures, and smells that defined the day-to-day lives of those who lived thousands of years ago. Culture isn’t just about looking back at heritage; but how our interpretations shape the future.
