Greenwich House is pleased to announce the appointment of Caitlin Brown as the new Director of Greenwich House Pottery. Brown, a ceramic artist, educator, and community arts leader with over two decades of experience in nonprofit management, higher education, and strategic communications, will serve as the 14th Director of Greenwich House Pottery, which was founded in 1909.
“We are thrilled to welcome Caitlin to the Greenwich House community,” said Laura Langner, Chief Health and Human Services Officer of Greenwich House. “Her extensive experience at the intersection of creative practice, community engagement, and mission-driven leadership, as well as her roles in arts education, museum and gallery operations, curatorial programming, and institutional storytelling makes her uniquely qualified to lead Greenwich House Pottery into its next chapter.”
Most recently, Brown served as Director of Communications and Outreach for the New York State College of Ceramics and Performing Arts Division at Alfred University, where she elevated the visibility of academic programs and creative research through collaborative, inclusive, and story-driven communications. She has also held leadership roles as Program Manager at Clay Art Center, Director and Chief Curator of the Cohen Gallery, and Operations and Programs Manager at the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum.
Brown brings experience in organizational development, public programming, budget oversight, grant writing, and facilities and studio management. She has worked extensively to strengthen internal systems, foster cross-sector partnerships, and build supportive and inclusive creative communities. She served two elected terms as a Village Trustee in Alfred, NY, where she helped lead civic communication strategies and public health initiatives.
An educator, Brown has taught ceramics, drawing, and professional practices at institutions including Queens College, SUNY Cortland, Marymount Manhattan College, Penn State, Alfred University, 92Y, and Clay Art Center. She earned a BFA in Ceramics and Printmaking from the Hartford Art School and an MFA in Ceramics from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. She has been a resident artist at the Mendocino Art Center, the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, and Clay Art Center.
“I am deeply honored to join Greenwich House Pottery as its new Director,” said Brown. “This institution has long been a cornerstone of artistic education and community engagement, and I am eager to work alongside the incredible community of artists, staff, and supporters who have made this space such a vital part of the ceramics world. I look forward to building on the Pottery’s legacy of excellence and collaboration. As an institution so closely aligned with my own values, joining Greenwich House feels like coming home. I am grateful to everyone who has welcomed me in, and I look forward to contributing to an environment where artistic expression thrives, while continuing to serve both the Pottery community and the wider public.”
Greenwich House Pottery has two locations in New York City. Greenwich House Pottery’s historic location is in the West Village, a historic ceramics studio serving the New York Community for over a century. The studio offers classes, exhibitions, and a residency and fellowship program, and is dedicated to expanding the practice and appreciation of ceramic arts for artists of all levels.
The second location, Greenwich House Pottery’s Chelsea studio is a modern, light-filled studio that expands our capacity to serve the growing ceramics community. This space provides additional opportunities for students to engage in hand building and wheel-throwing classes, fostering creativity and community in a dynamic environment.
