Greenwich House Music School Offers Free Rehearsal Space for NYC Musicians During New York Music Month
New York, NY – Greenwich House Music School (GHMS) is proud to partner with the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) to offer free rehearsal space and practice rooms throughout the month of June in honor of New York Music Month. GHMS is one of two locations in Manhattan participating in this citywide initiative.
Free Rehearsal Space in NYC’s West Village
From June 1 to 30, musicians and ensembles can book one free rehearsal per day at 46 Barrow Street. Sessions range from one to three hours. This initiative supports GHMS’s mission to make high-quality music education and creative space more accessible to all New Yorkers.
Securing affordable and accessible rehearsal spaces remains a significant challenge for many musicians in New York City. A 2022 survey by Creatives Rebuild New York found that 57% of artists in the state earn $25,000 or less annually, far below the state’s median household income of $84,578, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
“We’re thrilled to renew our partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment for New York Music Month 2025,” said Rachel Black, director of Greenwich House Music School. “Since 1905, our mission has been to expand access to high-quality music education. We also strive to create a safe, welcoming space where artists can learn, rehearse and connect. Now, this partnership helps us reach even more musicians, especially those looking for affordable rehearsal space in New York City. We’re proud to offer that kind of support, and we love seeing new faces walk through our doors each day.”
This year’s program builds on the success of previous partnerships and highlights the shared commitment of both GHMS and the Mayor’s Office to support New York City’s vibrant music community.
“We are so pleased to once again be partnering with the Greenwich House Music School as part of New York Music Month, the City’s official music festival held every June,” said Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, Pat Swinney Kaufman. “Musicians throughout the city will be able to access free rehearsal space at the famed Greenwich Village location, in order to finish a project, collaborate with fellow creatives or simply play. Thank you to the Music School for providing this valuable service.”
Presented by MOME, New York Music Month is the city’s official celebration of its music scene. Throughout June, the program features free events, performances, and resources for musicians across all five boroughs.

About the Greenwich House Music School
Since 1905, Greenwich House Music School has provided high-quality, affordable arts education for New Yorkers of all ages. The goal of GHMS is to teach students the beauty and transformative power of music, art, dance and theater. The distinguished faculty works to ensure students have the opportunity to experience these programs through private lessons, classes, workshops and monthly recitals. Each year GHMS provides scholarships for students on the basis of need and merit, as well as for public school outreach programs.
In addition to educating its students, GHMS serves the community with a wide spectrum of concerts, education workshops, and meetings for local civic and cultural organizations, and provides affordable rehearsal and performance space for local musicians. Greenwich House continues to work with our fellow community organizations around the city to advocate for social justice, and economic reforms that could begin to stem the tide on our nation’s systematic oppression of people of color. The school has also played an important part in the careers and lives of tens of thousands of students. GHMS is a member of the New York City Coalition of Community Schools of the Arts and The National Guild of Community Arts Education.
