Registration Policies – GHP Chelsea
Our new Greenwich House Pottery Chelsea location will offer a ceramics program for wheel throwers and handbuilders of all levels. Get started with the fundamentals of working in clay in a beginner class, build on existing skills in a mixed-level class, or refine your style with more ambitious projects in an intermediate/advanced class!
GHP Chelsea features a handbuilding studio, a wheel-throwing studio, one mixed-use open studio room, 15 potter’s wheels, three front-loading electric car kilns, a horizontal slab roller, one extruder, and two pug mills. Two versatile cone 6 clay bodies will be available with an exciting array of vibrant cone 6 glazes. We hope you can join us for this historic new venture!
REGISTRATION
GHP Chelsea’s winter registration opens Monday, January 15 at 12:00 p.m. EST! GHP Chelsea’s winter term will run from February 19 through March 20, 2024. Registration is available online. Payment is due at time of registration. Classes are designed for individuals 18 years and older.
Students must be registered for a multi-week class at the GHP location at which they intend to work and fire pieces. Those who wish to work at both studios must register for a class at both locations. Students may not bring pieces between studios, as the locations will have different clay bodies, glazes, and firing temperatures. Those registered for online or off-site classes may book studio time only at 16 Jones St.
FINANCIAL AID
The Pottery offers need-based financial aid. Applications (available at www.greenwichhouse.org/pottery/financial-aid) must be submitted each term. For those who do not qualify, payment plans are available upon sign-up. The deadline to apply for winter financial aid at GHP Chelsea is Monday, January 8 at 12:00 p.m. EST.
STUDIO SESSIONS
Students may only book Studio Sessions at the GHP location at which they are enrolled in a multi-week class. To work at the Pottery outside of class time, currently registered students enrolled in classes at GHP Chelsea can register for a Studio Session for a fee. The designated mixed-use studio has 10 seats per session (5 handbuilding and 5 wheel) available every day and can be booked in 4-hour increments. We ask that students practicing in the mixed-used open studio room schedule no more than 3 sessions per week in advance and just one 4-hour studio session per day in advance. Should a seat remain open on the day of an additional session, only then can a student sign up for a second session. The mixed-use studio session times are as follows, but are subject to change at the Pottery’s discretion:
Monday: 2:00–6:00 p.m.
6:00–10:00 p.m.
Tuesday–Friday: 10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

Studio time is also available in each classroom whenever classes do not meet (typically Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings and afternoons). Consult Pottery Notes weekly for availability.
