Financial Aid – GHP Chelsea

Greenwich House Pottery is committed to making ceramics classes accessible to all prospective students, and offers need-based financial aid on a term-to-term basis. Financially, the Pottery has had a few challenging years because of COVID but we are committed to socio-economic diversity at the Pottery and have earmarked financial aid funds from our operating income and from generous gifts from patrons. Currently, we have dedicated $55,000 of the Pottery’s annual operating budget towards financial aid funding for the 2023-2024 fiscal year, with over $16,000 allocated for each of the Fall, Winter, and Spring terms, and $6,000 for the Summer.

Financial aid is available to students applying for multi-week courses. We do our best to offer financial aid to all students who apply. The average financial aid award covers between 30 – 80% of tuition costs. While financial aid covers tuition and materials (clay, glazes, etc.), students are responsible for additional expenses, such as firing fees and studio time reservations.

The needs of our community are greater than our available financial aid funds. PLEASE only apply if you are truly in need. Individuals who have an adjusted gross income of $70,000 or above and no dependents are typically not eligible for financial aid.

If you do not wish to receive financial aid but find it difficult to pay in full at the time of registration, we offer a payment plan option at check-out during online registration. A 1/3 deposit is necessary at the time of registration. Two additional installments will be collected during the term for which you have registered; these payments will automatically be withdrawn on dates listed at check-out.

Selection Process:

  • Financial aid application forms are available when the course catalog is released each term. Applicants must submit a separate application for each term for which they wish to apply. We have updated our financial aid application form, which now includes demographics and space for a personal statement. If you have suggestions on other information to be included, we encourage feedback.
  • After you have completed the application form, please send your tax or other supporting documents to
  • If you have applied for financial aid, do not register for a class or we will not be able to process your financial aid paperwork. Once a student has submitted a complete financial aid application, a seat will be reserved in one of their preferred classes prior to deliberation of aid. We try our best to meet the class choices of the applicant, but it isn’t always possible. We encourage students to apply early and make sure to list their 2nd and 3rd class preference.

Applicants must specify three specific class numbers on their applications in order to be considered for aid. You can find the schedule here.
